Our story
What God began with a small discipleship gathering in Nairobi
is growing into a global family of worship leaders.
Where it began
In 2023, Kanjii Mbugua gathered worship leaders in Nairobi for the first Rooted in Worship discipleship pilot.
As they grew in Scripture, leadership, and calling, a community formed. From it came Pambio Worship, a collective of worship leaders and songwriters. Soon, the discipleship journey reached churches across Kenya and the United States.
A defining moment
In Cairo, Rooted in Worship brought together leaders from ten nations. We worshipped, learned, and shared our cultures, struggles, and stories.
Deep relationships formed. Songs emerged in the voices of the cultures around the table. From these beginnings, the wider Village Worship Initiative took shape.
Rooted in the local church
Village Worship Initiative is a growing global family, raising worship leaders through discipleship, songwriting, and partnership with local churches.
These leaders are shepherds, songwriters, and servants. Together, we are forming leaders, strengthening churches, and helping communities find their own faithful voice in worship—rooted in Scripture and the cultures they call home.
